It can be some of the hardest nights when your baby has a cold. Weather it be a cough, fever or even just boogers there is no way anyone is getting any sleep. Here are my top five favorite natural baby cold remedies!

1. Flush it out
First baby cold remedy is flushing out their nose should definitely be the number one thing you do. I use a saline solution and spray it up their nose to cleanse their nasal passages. I really like using the ones that have aloe in it to help sooth any irritation they may have. This way it is a little more comfortable for them, even though they may act like it is the literal end of the world. I know my children were like that at first but once they realized how much it helped they were quick to change their tune and now my oldest will ask for it if his nose gets stuffed.

2. Suck it out
I like to use this hand in hand with the saline solution. First I flush it, then once it loosens it all up I suck it out. I like to use two different suckers, depending on how bad it is. The first one is the nasal aspirator that you may likely get from the hospital. This one is the one I will use when they don’t have that bad of congestion or boogers. I like to use the Nose Frida nasal aspirator for the bigger jobs. I personally was very reluctant to try this as you personally have to suck on it. But when I saw how much relief it gave it is really hard not to use it. I would recommend the extra filters though, speaking from personal experience you will taste it if you don’t change the filter after about 3-5 uses. It varies due to how runny the boogers are, if very runny then I would opt for three.

3.Cool Mist Humidifier
Having a cool mist humidifier is crucial for overnight. Cool mist humidifiers create moisture in the air which is very important to keep their skin from drying out. Having a dry cracked nose on top of it running can be absolutely miserable. This can also help keep their mucus from drying too which will help you get it out easier. The cool mist humidifier I have also double as a diffuser, so I am able to diffuse essential oils to help their cold while adding moisture. The essential oils I like to diffuse that are also baby safe is a blend of orange, rosemary, clove and cinnamon. This is a good immune boosting blend.

4. Baby Cold Remedy – Steam Room
A steam room is another great way to loosen up mucus. One way you can make a steam room at home is in your bathroom. I know that my dad is probably shaking his head reading this, but you need to get the bathroom as steamy as possibly. To do that you will have to have the doors closed the whole time with the baby in there. Then turn on the shower extremely hot and just sit and relax enjoying the steam. It is crucial that you don’t turn on the fan in your bathroom as your fan is meant to take the steam out of your bathroom to prevent mold. I promise you the occasional bathroom steam room won’t cause mold. If you are worried about that you would be able to take a towel and wipe everything down after to absorb the extra moisture on the walls.
5. Elevate their Bed
The last of our baby cold remedies is elevating their bed. When I say elevating their bed I am talking just their head portion. I know that this can be difficult with all of the safe sleep rules, however here are a few ways we have done it. Depending on where they are sleeping you can put something under two of the four legs of their crib on the side their head would be. It would have to be something small as you don’t want them to slide down. We also have folded a towel and put it under the sheets. You could also choose to sleep with your child elevated like in a chair if you feel comfortable.

These are five things that you can do that are entirely natural and you don’t have to worry about adding things that can make it worse. I know medicine has come a long way and there are now some more natural brands but I choose to try and go without if possible. I have found these way to be very successful. I do want to warn you that this alone will not entirely solve their congestion. You will still need to support their immune system to overall fight off the cold. I can assure you that these 5 baby cold remedies are sure to ease their discomfort!
